Stop explaining the resurrection. Start imagining it.

In this powerful reflection on Luke 20, Matt Skinner challenges preachers to approach the resurrection not as theologians with answers, but as poets who help us imagine what it means to be human in entirely new ways.

“The Pharisees came to Jesus as explainers,” Skinner notes from outside of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. “They should have come as poets—asking Jesus to help us imagine, to help us yearn.”

This Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost, Skinner reminds us that when it comes to life with God and one another in resurrection, we don’t need theological explanations. We need poetry. We need mystery. We need encouragement to live in light of eternity—right now.
