Comentario del San Mateo 11:2-11

A veces, la realidad no coincide con nuestras expectativas.

Tenemos una cosa en mente, pero lo que sucede no es lo que esperábamos. En la lectura de la semana pasada, vimos a Juan el Bautista lleno de confianza en la inminente venida del Mesías (Mateo 3:1-12). Pero en la lectura de esta semana, Mateo 11:2-11, Juan tiene dudas en cuanto a la identidad mesiánica de Jesús a causa de “los hechos de Cristo” (v. 2), lo que se refiere a los prodigios de Jesús narrados en los capítulos 8-9. Estas obras no correspondían a sus esperanzas.

El Bautista envía a sus discípulos a que le pregunten a Jesús si era “aquel que había de venir” (v. 3). Para entender por qué le hace esta pregunta, debemos recordar que las expectativas mesiánicas de Juan eran de naturaleza apocalíptica.
