Preaching Moment 325: Otis Moss III on Finding Your Voice

Dr Otis Moss III of Trinity United Church of Christ said, “You don’t have to be like anyone else because no one can be a better you than you.”

Listening to other people and enjoying their preaching and emulating them to a degree is not a problem. However, find your own voice and “do not be swayed by people who say you have to preach this way” “You have to preach in your own gift.”

Many people are influenced by certain people but you have to recognize that you have to operate within your own gift. “Everyone have their unique gift of presentation. And you are more effective when you are authentic, when you recognize the gifts that you have been given and you express those gifts, people will recognize the spirit of authenticity and you’ll be able to penetrate the hearts of people that have become a tad bit taken back by modern day performance preaching that has no soul. We need authentic preachers for this generation”
