Biography

Rodney Caruthers II, PhD (University of Michigan) is Assistant Professor of New Testament at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, TX. He specializes in Second Temple Judaism and Early Christianity. His research interests include ancient education and writing practices, papyrology, Greek and Roman backgrounds to Early Judaism and Christianity, and the role of magic in antiquity. Some of his publications include Samaritans and African Americans: The Psychology of Stereotypes and Injustice (in The Oxford Handbook of the Bible, Race, and Diaspora); Compositional Education in Philo’s De vita Mosis and Theon’s Progymnasmata (in Wisdom Poured Out, De Gruyter); and Inspiration in Biblical Times (in Biblical Archaeology Review).
