Robert Hoch, Ph.D., is Pastor of First & Franklin Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Md. Before that, he served as Associate Professor of Homiletics and Worship at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Hoch’s most recent publication, By the Rivers of Babylon: Blueprints for a Church in Exile (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2013)  lifts up the stories and symbols of faith communities that have formed as deliberate and theologically coherent responses to exilic realities. Dr. Hoch believes these communities point to the emerging shape of the church in the twenty-first century. His other works include Breathing Patterns: A Teacher’s Reflections on Calling, Equipping, and Sending (Eugene: Wipf and Stock, 2010), regular blogs for the Huffington Post religion section, and as a contributor to Working Preacher.
