The Rev. Melinda Quivik, PhD, a pastor in the ELCA and former seminary professor of worship and preaching, writes, edits, and gives workshops and lectures on worship and preaching.

She served congregations in Montana, Minnesota, and Michigan and is now the Editor-in-Chief of Liturgy, a quarterly journal of The Liturgical Conference online and in print for pastors and scholars on topics related to worship and preaching. She also curates preaching commentaries found weekly at https://liturgicalconference.org/, and is now a preaching mentor with BackStory Preaching.

She has taught D.Min. preaching courses through the ACTS D.Min. program in Chicago, taught Lutheran theology and worship in North Sumatra, Indonesia, at the request of the Lutheran World Federation and ELCA Global Missions in 2014, and has led workshops and lectured in Michigan, Oregon, Florida, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana, Pennsylvania on preaching, baptismal identity, liturgical history, training lay worship leaders, and other topics. She earned certification in the Fundamentals of Online Teaching in 2020 through the University of Wisconsin.

Publications include: Remembering God’s Promises: A Funeral Planning Handbook (Augsburg Fortress: 2018), In Sure and Certain Hope: A Funeral Sourcebook (AFP, 2017), Leading Worship Matters: A Sourcebook for Preparing Worship Leaders (AFP, 2013), and Serving the Word: Preaching in Worship (AFP, 2009). Her essays have appeared in Sundays & Seasons: Preaching and New Proclamation (AFP), Preaching Social Justice from the Lectionary (Abingdon), WorkingPreacher.org., Centripetal Worship (AFP, 2007), Worship and Culture: Foreign Country or Homeland? (Eerdmans, 2014), and in journals, including Liturgy, Call to Worship, CrossAccent, and online at Journal of Lutheran Ethics. She was one of six core writers for Feasting on the Word: Worship Companion (WJK), a 6-vol. ecumenical compendium of new liturgical language for each Sunday of the RCL.

A past president of the North American Academy of Liturgy, she lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
