Biography

Kelly J. Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Central Michigan University, where she teaches classes on the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. 

She is the author of a forthcoming book entitled Open Your Hand to the Poor?: The Afterlives of Biblical Polyvocality on Poverty (Fortress Press). She has also written for the Fortress Commentary on the Bible: Old Testament and Apocrypha and the Women’s Bible Commentary, Third Edition, as well as for online publications like The Washington Post, Religion Dispatches, and Bible Odyssey. She serves on the steering committees for the Society of Biblical Literature’s Poverty in the Biblical World section and the Ideological Criticism section.
