Biography

Pastor John Bjorge was raised in southwestern Minnesota. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1986 where he majored in religion and psychology. During this time he also traveled in the Middle East for a semester. After graduating from Luther Seminary in 1990, he took his first call in Portland, Oregon.  He also served congregations in central Montana and served as the Teaching Pastor of Hosanna in Forest Lake, Minnesota.  While serving in the St. Paul (Minnesota) Area Synod, Pastor Bjorge chaired the synod’s Inviting Team, taught preaching labs at Luther Seminary, supervised Contextual Leadership students, and began his term as president of the Seminary Alumni Council.  He also completed his Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Preaching from Luther in 2007, writing his thesis on “Preaching for Conversion from a Theology of Grace.”  He is a regular speaker at Mount Carmel Ministries’ summer adult/family camps in Alexandria, Minnesota.  Pastor Bjorge currently serves as the Senior Pastor of First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach in Seattle, Washington. Pastor Bjorge and his wife–with whom he has three children–met during his first call in Portland, Oregon.
