F. Scott Spencer (PhD, University of Durham, England) is the New Testament General Editor for The SBL Study Bible and author of numerous books, including commentaries on Song of Songs, Mark, Luke, and Acts, and recent volumes on Passions of the Christ and Seven Challenges that Shaped the New Testament.

He has been a tenured professor at Wingate University and Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. He regularly teaches and preaches in area churches and has served several interim pastorates. He has also acted in university, seminary, and community theater productions, including roles in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Shadowlands, God’s Favorite, Cotton Patch Gospel, and Godspell.
