Emerson B. Powery (Ph.D., Duke University) is Dean for the School of Arts, Culture & Society at Messiah University. He serves as General Editor of Early Christianity and Its Literature (SBL Book Series). Among his publications are The Good Samaritan: Luke 10 for the Life of the Church (Baker, 2023), The Genesis of Liberation: Biblical Interpretation in the Antebellum Narratives of the Enslaved (WJKP, 2016), and the edited volume True to Our Native Land: An African American NT Commentary (Fortress Press, 2007).
