Biography
Emerson B. Powery (Ph.D., Duke University) is a Professor of Biblical Studies at Messiah College where he joined the faculty in 2008. He serves on the editorial boards of the Common English Bible and the Journal of Biblical Literature (2005-Present) and is a recent past regional President of the Society of Biblical Literature (SE Region; 2006-2007). Among his publications are the co-authored Invitation to the New Testament (2008), edited volume True to Our Native Land: An African American NT Commentary (Fortress/Augsburg, 2007), and Jesus Reads Scripture (Brill, 2003). He resides in Enola, PA with his spouse, Kimberly, and their four sons.
