Biography

Dirk G. Lange is Assistant General Secretary for Ecumenical Relations, The Lutheran World Federation, Geneva, Switzerland. He also serves as Fredrik A. Schiotz Chair of Christian Missions and Professor of Worship at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minn. An ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, he received his Ph.D. in theology from Emory University. Working in the area of constructive liturgical theology, Lange re-reads classic theological texts through the lens of liturgy, trauma theory, and post-structuralist literary theory. He was Project Officer for the Joint Lutheran-Catholic Commemoration of the Reformation and the primary author of the Common Prayer (the liturgy that was used at the Commemoration). The Joint Commemoration took place in the Lund Cathedral on October 31, 2016, with the participation of Pope Francis.
